Technology has revolutionised the way the modern world communicates. The legal and commercial implications are complex and rapidly-evolving. Bird & Bird has built a stellar, global reputation of providing sophisticated, pragmatic advice to companies carving our digital future. Bird & Bird is an international leading law firm in business sectors where technology plays a key role. With over 400 dedicated Tech & Comms lawyers based across our 28 international offices we are universally recognised as market leaders within this sector.

We truly understand the critical role that physical infrastructure has in the deployment of IT services. We provide a unique combination of legal advice with an added commercial dimension to support you through the entire data centre life-cycle. There are four key attributes which we believe make us make us best-placed to advise all players in the data centre industry:

1. Experience: With over 20 years advising a broad range of clients on data centre and IT infrastructure developments (including those in the financial services sector), we are at the forefront of technical real estate projects. Clients benefit from our ability to put legal advice into a commercial context to meet your requirements.

2. Close industry alignment: We participate fully in the market, as founder members of the European Data Centre Association and as members of techUK and the Datacentre Alliance. This investment in the sector allows us to add demonstrable value to projects of any size and scale.

3. Effectiveness: Large, complex, business-critical projects are routine for our lawyers. Through extensive experience, we know that such projects require pro-active management by the lawyers, working with the whole project team. We have the skills, tools and intuition to deliver this. A complex data centre project will involve a large number of stakeholders, and quickly building positive relationships with them will be another key to success. Negotiations will undoubtedly throw up the odd challenge or two, and so creative problem solving will also be required. You will be able to draw upon our expertise, ensuring that you have the right people in the room when you need them. Our objective throughout is to deploy skills and deliver services which represent true value.

4. Cross-border expertise: Given the international nature of the data centre industry, our lawyers share knowledge and sector experience across borders to develop best practice and new ideas. Our International Data Centre Interest Group comprises more than 40 lawyers across many different practice areas including construction, real estate, and intellectual property. All parts of the world are represented in the Group and some of our lawyers have significant experience in acting on data centre projects in the Singapore market.
